We are learning to calculate the perimeter, area and volume of shapes:
Our task:
Make two different shapes, using the unifix cubes, that have a volume of:
36 cm cubed
(Insert photos of your two different shapes)
What is the perimeter of each shape? Cube: 14 cm. Rectangle: 18 cm.
What is the area of the bottom level of each shape? Cube: 6 cm. Rectangle: 18 cm
What formula can we use to work out:
Perimeter: 2 x L + w
Area: Length x width
Volume: Length x width x height.
From this activity I learnt that the area can be the same, even if the shape changes but the perimeter might be different.
